First trailer for Ridley Scott´s "The Martian"

The first trailer for Ridley Scott´s new space movie, "The Martian", has been released by 20th Century Fox and it looks pretty impressive.

The movie stars Matt Damon as an astronaut who ends up stranded on Mars and is presumed dead. 

"The Martian" also stars Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain or Kristen Wiig, and it has gained momentum since Fox screened some footage back in April at CinemaCon receiving some praise from exhibitors.

Neil Blomkamp shares new info on upcoming "Alien" sequel

Director Neil Blomkamp (District 9) has recently sat down on Empire´s podcast and shared a bit of info on the upcoming and announced Alien sequel which he is helming.

Blomkamp who is very enthusiastic about his new project talked about the way the film was conceived:

"2014 was a really weird year for me because I usually know quite decisively what I want to do, and in the process of post-production on Chappie, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. I had a bunch of different ideas for different films. My favourite, on a gut instinct, artistic level, was Alien, by a long way."

The Elysium director continued explaining how it all came about:


"If you go back even three or four years, I’ve wanted to make a film in that genre, in that franchise. I’d come up with an idea, and when I met Sigourney (Weaver) on the set of Chappie, I presumed that she would never want to play Ripley again. Rightly or wrongly, I had that in my head. I also didn’t know where you could go with her, given Alien 3 and 4." he said. 

"So when I started speaking to her, I just wanted to know more about the process of making the first two films. The first two are the ones that I care about. Then I started to realise there was a whole film – at least a film, if not more – that still contained Ripley, which I was really surprised by."

Blomkamp apparently has a title already decided but would not reveal it as he wants to keep the premise of the movie under wraps for now. However, he did explain how much time he has already invested in the forthcoming sequel:


"So when I went back to Vancouver for 2014 unclear of what I wanted to make, I knew that my artistic compass kept driving me to Alien. Whenever I wasn’t needed on Chappie, I spent time on Alien, to the point where I hired my own concept artist and fleshed the entire movie out, basically. Even then, I still didn’t know if I wanted to do it."

 The Chappie director also revealed he did change one aspect of the script which could collide with Prometheus 2 following conversations with fellow director Ridley Scott and producer of the fifth intallment of the franchise.

 A brand new trailer for Ridley Scott´s Prometheus has been released, proving once more that high quality trailers can be made without necessarily spoiling the whole movie.

Ridley Scott´s 'Prometheus' Will Have A Link To Alien Franchise

 Just recently, director Ridley Scott announced that the Alien prequel he was set to direct and penned by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, had taken a life of its own and will now be conceived as an original project named Prometheus.

 However, according to Sky Movies, Prometheus will still have a storyline that ties in directly with the Alien franchise, and this will include the popular H.R. Giger designed creatures. Giger has been previously linked to being involved in the prequel so the possibility of him being involved in this new project is strong.

 Sources say that "despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar H.R. Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently. They've built the 'space jockey' cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien "

 Insiders also confirm that the plot centres around a space crew and the discovery of alien DNA on an archeological expedition, which will eventually lead them to an alien world.

  Rumours also state that the film is said to involve "biochemical technology" and the spacecraft may be piloted by a giant CGI head.

Charlize Theron Could Star in 'Alien' Prequel

 According to Vulture, Charlize Theron may be in talks to star in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel to play spaceship crewmember Vickers.

 Originally, Scott had wanted to cast Michelle Yeoh in the part but the studio has been pushing for a bigger name to support potential lead Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) who is allegedly the director´s favourite choice as of now.

 There is no word yet on whether the Oscar-winning actress will finally get the role, but actor Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Bastards) is said to be in talks as well to play an android among the ship's crew.

  Seems like the Alien prequel is almost ready to go! Are you happy with the rumoured casting choices?

H.R. Giger will collaborate on ‘Alien’ prequel

 Sculptor/set designer H.R. Giger who is famous among other things for designing the Alien creature in the original 1979 movie, is set to return to his roots for the prequel directed by Ridley Scott. At least according to his wife, Scheweizer Fernsehen, who confirmed Giger's involvement with the project.

 Very little is known at this time about the film but the involvement of both Scott and Giger can almost guarantee a return to good quality science-fiction. An official announcement with details of the project is expected soon.

Sigourney Weaver talks Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel

  Sigourney Weaver has recently commented on the upcoming Alien prequel ,which is being helmed by Ridley Scott (who directed the first "Alien" movie), stating that she completely trusts Scott for the job. Even though she's not involved with the project, the actress who starred as Ripley in the popular franchise, revealed to Shock Til You Drop that she is hoping to be able to give her input on the story: "If they needed help with the story, I could probably help them because I probably have a good sense of what people appreciate in the series and what they don't care about. So I hope they'll ask me."

  As far the female lead for the film, Weaver believes "she should be very different from Ripley. I think it's a trick thing because you want to get a good, young actress in there." The actress said: "But I would trust Ridley. He found me! It's an important decision. But, as with all of these Alien films, it's an ensemble film. It's very important who you pick for all the parts."

  When she looks back on the "Alien" franchise, Weaver finds it hard to pick a favourite, stating that "each one had, at the helm, such an original visionary. Ridley transformed the idea of space from this sterile, cerebral place to a place where people actually got up and had breakfast and swore and griped and carried on like regular people. Then Jim [Cameron] took it to a whole other scale of story and emotional resonance."

   I believe that finding a replacement for Sigourney is going to be really hard for Ridley Scott. She should definitely be a strong, charismatic, empowered character that the audience can identify with. Ripley was the heroine in the story, and one of the reasons the Alien movies were so good and entertaining in the first place.
