Tom Cruise may star in 'Top Gun 2'

According to Vulture, Paramount Pictures is interested in resurrecting the franchise that made Tom Cruise a household name and has reportedly made offers to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to produce a sequel of the 80's action movie, "Top Gun".

The interesting piece of news is that, Tom Cruise himself may be willing to reprise the role of Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as long as the story is "not too obvious".

I think it's great that after so many years of rejecting offers for a sequel, Cruise has decided to come down of his high horse and is finally willing to accept. However, I cannot help but think if this is a way of trying to regain the popularity he once had with the public and that has been deteriorated over the last few years.

What do you say? Are you interested into a "Top Gun" sequel?

Update: Seems like Tom Cruise won't be involved in the possible sequel, after all. A representative for the actor has denied the rumour. Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects") has confirmed he's been approached to write the script.

  1. I'm interested only if BERLIN would write another TAKE MY BREATH AWAY song for the sequel :) That was one of the most beautiful movie songs ever.

  2. If they were to do a sequel with him in it, I hope he is not the main focus, maybe an instructor this time around and let a younger top gun candidate have main focus, I think then it could be quite decent.

By the way, you have been nominated by one of your readers in our contest. If your interested e-mail christian James at themovie411@live.co.uk

  3. Dezmond, "Take my breath away" was such a classic 80's love song, I love it! I don't think they can recapture that magic again though, the 80's were magical. :)
